The 7thAnnual Siarscéal Festival 2013 will take place from 7th to
9thMarch.  This year’s programme has been devised with a view to
“Celebrating the Gathering 2013.”

The Hanna Greally Literary Award Ceremony will take place on March 9th in
Roscommon Library, opening at 10am with tea/coffee and time to view the
Abbey writers and Paintbox Artists Exhibition, followed by the Festival
Launch and proceedings.  Our Guest Speakers are:  Minister Dinny McGinley
– Minister of State for Gaeltacht affairs, and Canadian Ambassador Loyola

The trophies will be presented by Mayor of Roscommon Cllr. Tom Crosby, and
Roscommon County Council Librarian Richie Farrell.  Newfoundland
Author/Film Director Eleanor McGrath and Sligo Poet Ann Joyce will be
facilitating Readings and Workshops during the Day.  Poetry to Music
Recital will be performed by students from The Abbey National School for
the Canadian Ambassador.

The Ger Hanily Memorial Cup; will be presented to a person who captures
throughout their entry ‘a deep feeling of Roscommon as their pride of
place, within the ‘gathering’ context.  Local Tulsk writer Paddy Moffitt
who holds the 2012 title will be surrendering the Cup to the new prize
holder, followed by award winner Readings.

The SiarScéal Festival International Concert will be held in Gleeson’s
Townhouse, Roscommon 9th and will start at 7pm.  Kanata An Irish Story
will be screened by Eleanor McGrath.  The film explores the forgotten
story of the Irish in Canada through a gentle framework of personal
accounts by people from the North and South of Ireland and from the
Jewish, Protestant and Catholic culture.  The film will be viewed in
Roscommon Library on Friday afternoon at 2pm for local schools.

You will also be entertained by The Brazilian Samba group with music and
Song, Ancient Irish Music by Sean Hanily and Abbey Music, Members from the
African vessels Gospel Choir, and students from The Irish School of
Dancing, There will be Readings from home and abroad followed by ‘The
Woodlands of Loughglynn’ written by Mary Ann Regan.

The Bilingual Poetry to Art will be exhibited in Roscommon Library on
March 7th at 7pm, featuring The Abbey writers with Paintbox painters.
Nuala Ní Chonchúir will be the Guest Poet for the evening.  Further
