A motorist stopped for speeding on Easter Saturday near Boyle subsequently tested positive for cocaine after an oral fluid test. The novice driver was initially stopped for speeding near the town of Boyle.

Gardaí conducted checkpoints as part of Operation Surround, but all tests were passed.

A Garda tweet noted, “Novice driver stopped for speeding near Boyle by Roscommon RPU (road policing unit).

Driver arrested having returned positive oral fluid test for cocaine. FCPN (fixed charge penalty notice) to issue for speeding and court to follow. MIT (mandatory intoxicant testing) checkpoints also conducted as part of Operation Surround. All tested passed.”
