There has been a reduction in the number of candidates seeking election to the county’s three electoral areas.
In all 33 candidates have been nominated to run, split evenly accross the three electoral areas. The number represents a decrease of six candidates from the last local elections in 2014.
Fianna Fáil has the largest number of candidates with nine, split evenly between the three electoral areas, followed by Fine Gael with six candidates, half of whom will run in the Boyle Municipal area. Sinn Féin has nominated three candidates, resulting in a single candidate strategy in each of the Municipal Districts. As many as 15 Independent or non-party candidates will be standing in the election.
