With seven boxes remaining to be tallied and 27 opened, the main story so far is the performance of Independent candidate and former Cllr. Tony Waldron from Ballintubber. He’s second at present on 1120or 14.62%, trailing Castlerea Fianna Fail Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice who is set to produce another poll topping performance with 1422 or 18.57%. Roscommon Town based Independent Cllr. Kathleen Shanagher looks set to increase her vote from five years ago. She currently stands on 1185or 15.47% with Orla Leyden on 876 or 11.44%. Fine Gael’s Gerry Coffey from Granlahan is on 482 or 6.29%. The battle for the final two seats on offer look to be a battle between Fianna Fail newcomer Marty McDermott from Oran, sitting Independent Cllr. Nigel Dineen and the aforementioned Coffey. Sitting Independent Cllr. Dominick Connolly is on 481 or 6.28%.
