A major Garda investigation is ongoing after a man was assaulted in what Gardaí describe as “a serious incident” which occurred in the Windmill Road area of Elphin. It took place during the late evening of Tuesday last, May 21st, and the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 22nd.

Gardaí believe the incident occurred around midnight when reports were made of a male demanding money from another male. A struggle ensued between both men. The injured party was threatened with a knife before sustaining serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

It is understood the assailant ran from the scene in the direction of Elphin town before making his getaway.

Gardaí are particularly anxious to speak to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Elphin late on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

The man, believed to be aged in his twenties, was of dark complexion and approximately five foot, ten inches in height. He was wearing a black zip-up top.

Gardaí are appealing for members of the public to come forward to assist them with their ongoing inquiries.
