A risk management review on the future of Castlerea Fire service is to be commissioned, members of Roscommon County Council were informed at a meeting on Monday.

At the time of going to press, the announcement was made by Council CEO, Eugene Cummins who said his intention was “to reopen the station”. However, he added that “as CEO, my responsibility is for the health and safety of every employee”.

The CEO said Director of Services Shane Tiernan would commission the report on behalf of the council. “On receipt of this report, I will assess the feasbility of reopening the station,” he said.

No timescale was given as to when the report would commence or conclude.
