Concerns have been raised for the future of some of Boyle’s mental health facilities, particularly in light of hostel closures elsewhere.

Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, Tony Canavan, the HSE’s head of community care for the county, said that as the health service implemented the recommendations of the Roscommon Mental Health Review, this invariably led to discussions around the need for individual day centres and hostels.

“But I am certainly not aware of any significant proposals,” he added.

When contacted, the Psychiatric Nurses Association told the Herald that there were some developments in the town’s services coming down the line but this was not a particular issue at the moment.
