Lisa O’Rourke has won a bronze medal at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Bulgaria.

A week after watching her sister Aoife making international headlines at the European Elite Boxing Championships, Lisa O’Rourke has been making waves at the European Youth Championships in Sofia.

The Castlerea boxer was guaranteed a bronze medal after a first round knockout stopped Georgina Schinte from Romania in her 75kg quarter-final on Saturday. Lisa forced her Romanian opponent into two standing counts late in the round before the referee stopped the fight. Earlier in the week, she defeated Ivona Drnic in the last 16.

On Monday afternoon, O’Rourke was defeated by Gabriele Diekontaite from Lithuania on a split decision in her semi-final, having won the first round.
