Concern is mounting for a dog that is believed to have been dumped in the Castlerea area over a month ago.

Believed to be a Lurcher Cross, the animal was was first seen wandering at Farm, Castlerea over a month ago. The dog is so scared of people and despite best efforts to get close with food it evaded capture.

The dog has since been sighted in Granlahan and Ballinlough so may be headed back towards Farm where we believe he/she could have originally been dumped.

Needless to say the dog is in need of food, reports this morning (Wednesday) said he nearly got hit by a car.

Heart of Ireland Animal Rescue is appealing for anyone who sees the dog to please note its location and contact them. They will take the dog into their care

“Your help is appreciated and if disused buildings or sheds can be checked we would appreciate your help. We are concerned about the dog’s condition having been on the road so long,” said a spokesperson for the organisation.

The dog is thought to be very thin given its lack of food having been roaming for more than a month at this stage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Heart of Ireland Animal Rescue through their Facebook page or on 087 1874268.
