Ballinasloe-based Councillor Ashling Dolan is set to be unveiled as Fine Gael’s second candidate for the forthcoming General Election.
Cllr Dolan, first elected as an Independent candidate for the Ballinasloe Electoral Area in June’s local elections, is set to be ratified by the party’s ruling Executive Council in the coming days following intensive local consultations in recent weeks. Cllr Dolan will accompany Senator Maura Hopkins on the party’s ticket in a two-candidate strategy. The party currently has one councillor in the Galway portion of the constituency, Cllr Peter Keaveney in Glenamaddy. However, party strategists feel the adding of Cllr Dolan will maximise the party’s vote at the next election.
