After recording one comfortable victory and one comprehensive defeat, Roscommon’s senior hurlers have little or no room for error this Sunday as they prepare to play London in the third round of the Allianz 2B Hurling League at Dr. Hyde Park.

After losing heavily to Roscommon and then shipping a landslide defeat to Kildare, Warwickshire already look like stone-cold certainties for relegation, with Derry, Kildare and Down all some distance in front in the race for promotion. Both Roscommon and London will feel that this Sunday’s fixture, which has a 1 p.m. throw-in, represents their best chance of picking up a win outside of the Warwickshire game.

London’s most recent outing — a 4-15 to 2-18 defeat to Derry at home — would suggest that they are in good form, although it should be noted that the Exiles fell 14 points behind in that game before rallying with an unanswered 1-8 to set up a dramatic finish. They also scored 20 times in their first round game against Kildare, suggesting that the scoreboard operators could be busy on Sunday if reasonable weather conditions prevail.

Roscommon’s last competitive game against London was a success story, a 1-25 to 2-12 victory in Ruislip in the Christy Ring Cup. Don’t expect a double figure margin of victory here, but there is enough scoring power in the home side’s line-up to prevail by two or three points.

Herald Verdict: Roscommon
