The iconic Hodson Bay Hotel in South Roscommon has taken the decision to close its doors temporarily due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The hotel is now closed to the public and only security staff are currently on the premises.

In a statement on its website, the hotel said it took the decision in the interests of public safety.

“Following the direction and advice from Government and the HSE in regard to movement and social engagements, the Management of Hodson Bay Group has decided to not accept any bookings for dates between now and April 30th, 2020 inclusive,” the statement read.

“Our primary responsibility is to protect our own staff, and to avoid causing unnecessary travel or movement which increases the threat to the most vulnerable. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience but we believe that this action is in the national interest.”

It assured patrons that its online systems continue to operate as normal.

“We are already responding to all emails, and systems are in place to allow remote working. We are also in a position to deal with all of your telephone enquiries. We welcome all enquiries for availability and events from May 1st and beyond. To enquire, please email [email protected] at any time, and we will respond to you promptly.”
