A 20-year-old man has been arrested following an altercation in Ballinasloe that left three men injured with stab wounds on Sunday evening.
The incident in the Brackernagh area of Ballinasloe in Co Galway took place at around 7pm, with three individuals in their twenties attending the local Portiuncula Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The arrested man is currently being detained at Ballinasloe Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Two remain in hospital.
Local councillor Aisling Dolan said it was “very shocking” to hear of the incident, which is aggravated by the fact critical services, such as the gardaí and hospitals, are dealing with an unprecedented crisis.
Aisling said: “We have a crisis at the moment that is causing a change in people’s lives. I have no idea what the background of this is. It is a shocking incident.”
“This type of behaviour is very unwelcome and I can only encourage people to support the gardaí in what they need to do here,” she added.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have information to make contact with Ballinasloe Garda Station by calling (090) 9631890, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
