The scene at Glinsk GAA grounds as action resumed on Sunday last.

It seems that Elphin GAA Club has started a trend.

Exactly a month ago, the Baby Faced Rams locked horns with the Hairy Mountain Hoggets at Orchard Park.

Now, Glinsk GAA Club in Galway has staged its own “baa-ll game” with a flock of ewes taking to its lush sward that, like most of us, appears to be in need of a “short back and sides”.

“Finally, the day we have all been waiting for,” the club enthusiastically reported on its Facebook page.

“After a long 3 months we have some action at the pitch again. Great to see such a good turnout and all the ewes keeping their social distance.”

From what we can gather, positions mean nothing in this particular game, and both teams appear to be carrying a couple of passengers that have “wintered well” or are feeling the effects from cocooning over the last two months.

But a couple of hashtags at the end of the club’s commentary provided an insight into the real reason for such a full-blooded encounter

“#finebitofgrowththere #keepingthecostdown”
