Rose Mannion and the staff at Portiuncula University Hospital

The staff at Portiuncula University Hospital gathered to applaud 66 year old Rose Mannion as she left the hospital’s intensive care unit after over 80 days battling Covid-19.

In an emotional video, staff at the hospital lined the corridors to praise Rose, who is living in Lorrha in North Tipperary but originally from Cloghan, County Offaly.

A mother of two children and a grandmother of two, she spent a total of 81 days in ICU between Galway University Hospital and Portiuncula University Hospital. She also spent 10 days recovering in a ward before transferring to University Hospital Limerick for rehab where she currently is now.

β€œI want to thank the staff in both hospitals, in particular, Ballinasloe where I spent most of my time,” she said. β€œThe team in Ballinasloe headed up by Dr Hillary McLoughlin fought hard against the odds as I am an asthmatic to save my life. I cannot thank them enough or the physio team who worked with me also. They’re a brilliant team.” She also thanked family, extended family, neighbours, and friends for their support.
