Nationwide on RTÉ airing tonight (Wednesday) tells the story of how a South Roscommon woman inspired a community to get off the couch.
Laura Tully, a nurse at Athlone Institute of Technology, decided to become a leader to advocate fitness and improve the lifestyle of her community.
She set up the ‘Fit Farmers’ initiative in 2019 and managed to get farmers in her area participating in Pilates and circuits. A major study of farmers’ health published in Jun found that 86 per cent of farmers are either overweight or obese. The ‘Fit Farmers’ programme, supported by Roscommon Sports Partnership, aims to improve the nutrition, strength and wellbeing of Irish Farmers. To date, 76 farmers have undertaken Laura’s programme.
On social media, Laura said she is looking forward to watching the episode which highlights the “importance of community & social connectedness for health and wellbeing”.
The episode of Nationwide airs at 8pm on RTE One.
