The Department of Health has declined to comment on the source of the county’s most recent coronavirus infection. Up until yesterday, there had been no new infections announced since Saturday, July 4th, the longest of any county in the country.
The Herald asked the department to say whether the case, which was confirmed last night, was as a result of community transmission or a close contact.
“The Department of Health does not comment on individual cases to protect the confidentiality of the persons concerned,” the department responded.
After almost five weeks Roscommon recorded its first new case of Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the total to 347 cases. According to the latest figures from the CSO, Roscommon has a total of 11 deaths due to the pandemic.
