New Roscommon senior hurling manager Johnny Keane saw his side edged out by Wicklow in the Christy Ring Cup.

A sensational Roscommon comeback just fell short against Wicklow in the quarter-finals of the Christy Ring Cup at Dr. Hyde Park this afternoon.

Johnny Keane’s side found themselves 15 points behind after 42 minutes but they staged a remarkable comeback to end up losing by just two points, 2-19 to 3-14.

A brace of goals from Player of the Match Christy Moorehouse, the first inside the opening minute from the penalty spot, left the Garden County in complete control, and when the visitors led by 2-14 to 0-5 seven minutes into the second half, all looked lost from a Roscommon perspective.

But, amazingly, being so far behind ignited a tremendous Roscommon response. Cathal Dolan bagged two goals inside a minute, and when Eamon Flanagan drilled a 21-yard free to the net soon afterwards, all bets were off.

But Moorehouse kept the scoreboard ticking over from a Wicklow perspective as Roscommon’s brave comeback fell short.
