The first snow of the winter has arrived in Roscommon. The Castlerea area has experienced its first snow shower of the winter season in the last hour.
According to Met Eireann the county is in for a bitter few days with temperatures plummeting.
Forecasters are already warning that the mercury is set to plummet to sub-zero as the country braces for a wintry blast over the coming days.
On Thursday morning Met Eireann issued a Status Yellow snowfall warning for many counties as weather chiefs warned that hail, sleet and snow were likely to hit. In West Roscommon at 10.30 p.m. this evening the mercury had hit -1. Met Eireann has warned that temperatures are set to plummet further overnight before the sunshine returns.
