Both Athlone LEAs in Roscommon and Westmeath currently have some of the lowest incidence rates of Covid-19 in the country.
The latest figures from January 4th show that when the national incidence rate per 100,000 population was 674.4, Athlone LEA in County Roscommon was the eighth lowest in the country with a rate of 255. Just below that figure was the Athlone LEA in County Westmeath on a figure of 256.
The Athlone LEA in County Roscommon has a population of 19,979, and reported 51 cases of Covid between December 22nd and January 4th.
Some other LEAs with the lowest rates include Lismore, 103; Dungarvan, 142; Portlaw-Kilmacthomas, 146; Carrick-on-Suir, 170; Rosslare, 237; Middleton, 240; Arklow, 248 and Clonmel, 259.
The LEA with the highest incidence rate in the country is Belmullet, County Mayo, with an incidence rate of 2,111, followed by Adare/Rathkeale (2,010), Dundalk South (1,982), Milford (1,786) and Letterkenny (1,678).
