The new Covid-19 test centre for Carrick-on-Shannon is set to open tomorrow (Wednesday), January 13th. The new centre is located at the North West Business and Technology Park, located on the Castlecarra Road on the outskirts of the town.
The new test centre will open on weekdays initially with opening days and times reviewed regularly based on ongoing demand for testing in the local area.
A test centre had been operating in the town previously but was closed last year, as demand was not considered sufficient for the continued operation of the facility.
This week 40 appointment slots will be offered each afternoon in Carrick on Shannon (from Wednesday). Testing capacity will be reviewed weekly and can be increased or decreased depending on local demand.
Emma Ball, CHO 1 Primary Care General Manager, Sligo/ Leitrim claims 97 per cent of people seeking a Covid test are now being offered either a same day or next day appointment for testing.
“Since Christmas, we have been able to offer up to 480 appointments per day for COVID-19 testing in counties Sligo/ Leitrim.
“People can only attend for testing if they have been referred for a test and have been texted appointment details. Those being tested will be required to follow all public health measures,” said Ms Ball.
Anyone testing positive for the virus will be contacted by HSE contact tracers to help them track their contacts.
Close contacts will receive a notification by SMS that they must restrict their movements for 14 days and if they develop symptoms, they should call their GP or GP Out of Hours service and arrange a test.
The HSE strongly encourages all members of the public identified as requiring a Covid-19 test to attend for their appointment.
