Former Westmeath footballer and current St. Brigid’s club member Enda Nugent was tonight confirmed as the Roscommon U-17 football manager for 2021, having been ratified at the February meeting of the Roscommon county board.

Nugent, who made history as the first player from the newly-formed Garrycastle club to play senior football for Westmeath in 1988, had been heavily involved in the underage scene in St. Brigid’s before taking over the Roscommon U-14 development panel in 2018 and he stayed with this group through U-15 and U-16 since then.

New minor board chairman Shay Galvin proposed his appointment to the U-17 management position at tonight’s virtual county board meeting, and this was accepted without opposition.

For the moment, Nugent can only sit back as Emmet Durney will continue to work with the 2020 minors, who continue to wait on further developments regarding their All-Ireland semi-final clash with Kerry.
