Kiltoom man, Edward Leonard, was runner up in the election to be the next President of the UCD Students’ Union. The winner was announced on Good Friday and voting took place online on March 31st and April 1st.
Mr Leonard, aged 23, is in the final year of a four-year Law with Politics degree at UCD and has a long-standing involvement in student and youth politics.
In the live stream of the election results, Mr Leonard congratulated the victor, Ruairí Power, and thanked his campaign team. In a Facebook post shortly afterward, the Kiltoom man reiterated his congratulations.
“It is fair to say that UCDSU is in a safe pair of hands. I have only good wishes for his term as President,” he said. Mr Leonard also commiserated with his fellow runner-up.
“To everyone who voted for me, I cannot express how much your support means to me. For all the goodwill messages, shares, retweets, and posts of support, I am forever grateful,” he said, and he thanked his “wonderful” campaign team.
“UCD Students’ Union has been such a strong part of my time in UCD and I will always have fond memories of my time as a Class Representative and as Law College Officer. I cannot recommend enough getting involved with UCDSU. You will not regret it.”
