Two men in their 20s were arrested in connection with an incident in Kiltoom on Thursday night, March 25th.
The incident is understood to have happened on the N61 road, close to Kiltoom graveyard at around 10.30 pm. A driver was beckoned to pull over by a vehicle from behind with a flashing blue light. Thinking it was the Gardaí, the driver pulled over. But when they realised that they were not Gardaí, the driver took off. No gun was produced or threats made during the incident.
A follow-up search operation was conducted yesterday by the Roscommon District Detective Unit at a residence in Athlone, County Westmeath.
Two men, aged in their 20s, were arrested and taken to Athlone Garda Station where they were detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. Imitation firearms were also seized during the operation, local Gardaí confirmed.
They have since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
