Justice Minister Helen McEntee and her Roscommon husband, Paul Hickey, are celebrating the birth of a baby boy this morning.
The Meath East TD, who only began her maternity leave two days ago, has become the first serving Cabinet Minister to give birth while in office.
She gave birth to a baby boy, weighing 7lbs 8oz, in the Rotunda Hospital on Wednesday night at approximately 9.20 p.m..
Last December, Minister McEntee revealed that she and her husband Paul were delighted to be expecting their first child in May 2021.
Ms McEntee married Mr Hickey, a native of Castlecoote who is a former parliamentary assistant to Fine Gael TD and former education minister Joe McHugh, in 2017.
She temporarily stepped aside on Tuesday as Minister for Justice to take maternity leave, but remains a member of Government, albeit serving as a cabinet Minister without portfolio during the duration of her leave.
Congratulations @HMcEntee and Paul on the birth of your wonderful baby boy.
A time of great joy for you all. Enjoy! Wishing you every happiness, always.
