Aoife O’Rourke will fight the boxer she beat in the 2019 European middleweight final for a place at this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
The Castlerea boxer will cross paths with Poland’s Elzebieta Wojcik in this evening’s quarter-final clash at the Grand Dome in Paris at 6.45 p.m. (in Ring A), where the winner will book their place at this year’s Olympics Games.
The 23-year-old from West Roscommon was hugely impressive in seeing off Belarussian Viktoryia Kebikava in Friday’s last 16 clash to reach the last eight of the 75kg middleweight division.
Back in 2019, O’Rourke came through a scrappy affair against Wojcik in Madrid, where her aggression and energy proved effective — the same traits she utilised to put herself on the cusp of Olympic qualification against Kebikava on Friday.
No doubt, all of Roscommon will be wishing Aoife the best of luck this evening.
