Lidl Ladies NFL Division 3A

Sligo 0-13 Roscommon 0-11

Roscommon will play Laois in the semi-finals of the Lidl Ladies NFL next weekend after they fell short by two points against Sligo this afternoon at Markievicz Park.

The home side were full value for their victory after controlling the middle third and exerting huge pressure on the Roscommon kickout throughout the game, though the Rossies will look back with regret on their failure to convert a number of good goal chances. Jenny Higgins had a great opportunity blocked on the line by Lauren Boles early on, while Natalie McHugh sent another effort straight at the Sligo keeper before half time. Aisling Hanly also had the ball in the net in the second half at a time when Roscommon were dominant, having come from three points down to draw level, but it was ruled out for a square ball infringement.

Hanly led the way for Roscommon with five points from play, but several other key players underperformed and it fell to Sligo talisman Katie Walsh to kick the last two points to snatch the win and secure top spot in the group for the Yeats County. They advance to meet Kildare in the other league semi-final, following the Lily Whites’ 0-10 to 0-9 win over Longford at Newbridge this afternoon.
