A truck driver who smashed through a level crossing in County Roscommon has been interviewed by the PSNI, according to Irish Rail.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said the PSNI apprehended the driver in Newry and the company is pursuing costs for the damage, which are in excess of €10,000.

The railway barrier at Bellacagher, which intersects the N60, the main Roscommon Town to Castlerea road, was damaged following an incident on Friday, May 21st.

Footage released by Irish Rail appeared to show a lorry crashing through the barriers as they were about to be lowered, causing extensive damage. The incident caused disruption to both road and rail users.
