Significant traffic delays are being experienced in both Roscommon town and Castlerea town today.
The Public Realm Project is continuing in Roscommon Town while road works are underway in Castlerea and causing significant tailbacks along the town’s Main Street. Traffic lights are in operation in Castlerea at Main Street and at the Ballindrimley road junction, but motorists are advised to leave extra time for their journeys through the town. Throughout the morning motorists have spoken of large tailbacks.
In Roscommon Town Main Street has re-opened to one-way traffic (South to North) with works continuing on the footpaths. However, the east side of the Square has been closed to traffic and will remain closed to traffic until August to facilitate Phase 3 of the Public Realm Project.
According to Roscommon County Council during Phase 3 works “there will be no access to the Square from Castle Street or Lanesboro Street.” However, pedestrian access to all premises is being maintained.
Traffic diversions around Roscommon Town are in place, but again “significant delays” are being experienced at the Lanesboro Road and Athlone Road roundabouts and again motorists are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys through Roscommon Town.
