Former Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football manager, Michael Finneran.

A former Roscommon player and manager is hoping to continue the upward trajectory of a neighbouring county across the River Shannon in 2022

Michael Finneran from St. Dominic’s, who lined out at midfield for Roscommon and managed the county’s intermediate ladies’ team between 2017 and 2020, will lead reigning All-Ireland intermediate ladies’ football champions Westmeath into the shark-infested waters of senior league and championship football this season.

Westmeath will ply their trade in Division 1A of the Lidl National League where they travel to meet Mayo on February 13th before playing Donegal and Galway at home on February 20th and March 6th.

Finneran is joined on the management ticket by Marie Kelly (team administrator) and Shane Monaghan (strength and conditioning), who worked alongside him during his tenure in charge of Roscommon.

Ironically, Finneran’s last game in charge of Roscommon was the narrow defeat against his new team, Westmeath, at the semi-final stages of the 2020 All-Ireland intermediate championship at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, Longford.
