A number of vigils will take place across the county today (Friday) in memory of the young Offaly woman who was killed in Tullamore this week.
The nation has been left in complete shock by the attack on Ashling Murphy which happened in broad daylight along the banks of the canal in Tullamore on Wednesday afternoon.
A vigil will take place at 6p.m. in Castlerea at Somers Park and a walk through the Demense afterwards. Those attending are asked to bring their own candle with them. In Elphin, a candlelit vigil has been organised for 8p.m. in the Church car park and Fr Gannon will attend for prayers.
In Roscommon Town at 6p.m. this evening at The Square in the middle of the town, a candlelit ceremony will also take place.
In Strokestown, a silent candlelit vigil will take place on Bawn Street at 8.30p.m. tonight, in solidarity with Ashling and her family.
In Lisacul, a gathering has been organised for 4p.m. today at the Church crossroads to remember Ashling Murphy and all are welcome to attend and bring a candle to light in her memory.
As a mark of respect to Ashling Murphy and in solidarity with her family and friends, Boyle Athletic Club have organised a walk/run to take place on Sunday, January 16th at 4p.m. meeting at St Joseph’s Church carpark. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Roscommon Harriers AC has organised a walk/run on Sunday, January 16th, as a mark of respect to Ashling and in solidarity with her friends and family. The meeting point is Casey’s, Roscommon at 10 a.m.. There will be hot drinks served afterwards.
Organisers of all the events are asking those who plan to attend to adhere to all Covid 19 HSE guidelines on social distancing and to wear a mask.
