The number of fines issued by local Gardaí to motorists illegally parking in disabled bays almost doubled last year.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee told the Dáil last week that 87 fines were issued in 2021 by Roscommon-Longford Gardaí to motorists for stopping or parking in a disabled bay. All offences carry an initial fine value of €80, Minister McEntee said. The minister was responding to a question by local TD Claire Kerrane.

The number of fines issued is an increase on 2020’s figures when 45 fines were issued in the Garda division.

Separately, recently Longford Roads Policing Unit issued fines to two vehicles parked on footpaths in Longford for creating an obstacle for pedestrians and vulnerable road users.
