Aoife and Lisa O’Rourke are representing Ireland at this week’s Women’s World Boxing Championships.

There will be plenty of Roscommon interest in the opening day of the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul when Lisa O’Rourke gets her Light Middleweight campaign underway later this evening.

The European U-22 champion, who now boxes out of Olympic Boxing Club in Galway, faces Mbabi Brigitte of the Democratic Republic of Congo in her preliminary round, with the winner facing Moronta Hernandez of the Dominican Republic in the last 32 on May 13th.

Lisa’s sister Aoife has been handed a tough draw in the Women’s Middleweight competition when she faces Naomi Graham of the USA on Wednesday afternoon.  Graham defeated O’Rourke in the semi-finals of the Strandja tournament in 2021. The winner will face Tammara Thibeault of Canada in the last 32.
