Gardaí have confirmed that the body of a young man has been discovered in Athlone.

The body of the male, believed to be from the local area, was discovered on the Greenway in the town, near Garrycastle.

Gardaí said they were alerted to the incident shortly before lunchtime this afternoon, adding that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
