A primary school in the county has bid farewell to its beloved principal who is retiring after almost 30 years.
Yesterday, Castlesampson NS in Bealnamulla, South Roscommon held a party for its principal Mrs Mary Naughton, who is retiring after almost three decades.
“She has been at the heart of Castlesampson NS for the past 29 years and is loved by our children, staff, parents, and indeed the wider school community,” the school said. “We will be extremely sad to see Mrs Naughton leave us but we are so thankful for all she has done for us over the years. Mrs Naughton’s kindness and friendship will never be forgotten and we hope she will be a frequent visitor to Castlesampson.”
Local councillor, John Keogh, wished Mrs Naughton a happy retirement, saying she had given over 40 years service to educating children “and for that, we should all be extremely grateful”.
“The send-off she received yesterday was demonstrative of the love and admiration that all the children, staff, parents, and all the community have for Patty,” he said. “It is a clear testament to Patty’s dedication to educating our young. Whilst she has retired from her role as principal, I am sure that Patty will continue to be a role model for many people for years to come.”
He wished the new principal the very best in their new role and promised his continued support for the development of education services at Castlesampson.
