The breakdown of deaths from Covid-19 in County Roscommon has been published in new information from the Central Statistics Office’ (CSO) Frontier Series this afternoon.

Between March 2020 and February 2022, the county recorded 59 deaths where Covid-19 was identified as the “underlying cause of death”.

Of these 59 deaths, 26 occurred in people aged 85 years or over, 19 in those aged between 75 and 84 years, 12 in those aged between 65 and 74, one death in those aged between 55 and 64 and one death in those between 45 and 54.

According to the information, no one under 45 years of age died from Covid-19 in the county.

During the same time frame, the corresponding number of deaths for neighbouring counties were: Galway, 135; Mayo, 200; Sligo, 45; Leitrim, 26; Longford, 36; Westmeath, 82; Offaly, 67.

Of the 5,384 deaths nationally, 59 per cent of deaths from Covid-19 occurred in general and orthopaedic hospitals, followed by 29 per cent in nursing homes.
