Robbie Powell from Athone.


A County Roscommon swimmer has been in action for Ireland at the European Aquatic Championships in Rome this morning (Friday).

Robbie Powell took part in the heats of the 100 metres freestyle, finishing seventh in Heat 2.

The former Coláiste Chiaráin, Summerhill, student posted a time of 50.99, which was 0.64 behind the winner, Martin Kertavi from Israel.

Powell is also scheduled to compete in the 200 metres freestyle on Sunday.

Last year, Powell represented Ireland at the FINA World Championships in the United Arab Emirates.
