All-Ireland minor handball champion, Carragh Kennedy.

Carragh Kennedy became the eighth Roscommon player to win a 60 x 30 All-Ireland minor handball title following a terrific victory on her home court in St. Coman’s this afternoon.

Despite trailing 8-0 in the first game, Kennedy came storming back into proceedings against Clare’s Leah Minogue to prevail 21-20 before winning the second game 21-13 to be crowned national champion.

“I’m delighted. I can’t believe I won it. But I’ve trained hard every day and that hard work has paid off.

“I panicked a bit (in the first game), fell asleep maybe I suppose. But it was all about keeping cool. I had complete concentration and focus,” she said afterwards.

St. Coman’s Handball Club in Roscommon Town is hosting this afternoon’s 60 x 30 All-Ireland senior and minor handball finals, both male and female, where some of the country’s top handballers are in town.
