Rory Carthy has secured a place on the US bound Irish team after a superb win over the number one seed today at Kingscourt, Cavan.

Rory lost the first game 21-6 to top seed Conor Doyle of Kilkenny but won the second, 21-13. The St Coman’s handballer then went on to win a nail-biting tiebreaker, 11-6.

Rory will now travel with the Irish team to San Francisco to take part in the American Juvenile Nationals from December 23rd to 31st. He will join his St Coman’s colleague, Aengus Cunningham who is Ireland team coach.

The young handballer, who played with the Roscommon minor footballers last year, will see his time in the States taking in Christmas Day. Not a bad Christmas present though!
