A donation box for the family of a man whose body was recovered from the River Shannon in Carrick-on-Shannon was stolen from a shop in the town on Saturday evening.

The collection box was stolen from the Lithuanica shop in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday last around 6.15 p.m..

Gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon are investigating the theft.

Gofundme pages were set up for the volunteer services who spent 20 days searching the River Shannon for the man over the Christmas and New Year period and also for his family to help defray funeral costs.

A new donation box has now been put placed in the Lithuanica shop and people are asked to give what they can to help the family with funeral costs. The gofund me page can be found at https://gf.me/v/c/8ch6/rokas-lengvinas- family-with-funeral-costs
