The Athlone Community College junior girls’ squad that are in Leinster Cup final action on Friday.

 

A number of students from County Roscommon are part of the Athlone Community College junior girls’ soccer squad who will be hoping to secure Leinster Cup final glory on Friday (tomorrow).

Athlone Community College will play Presentation Secondary School, Wexford, in the U-17 (Large Schools) decider in Naas AFC at 12 noon.

The team are coached by Edel Menton from Curraghboy who is a teacher in the school.

Roscommon girls on the squad include current Hodson Bay Celtic players Bonnie Moylette, Caoimhe Dolan, Rachel Rourke, Aoife Minnock, Rebecca Keenan, Keeley Sammon, Roisín O’Brien and Shauna Walsh.

Ciara Walsh, Lara Deehan and Aoife Walsh are ex-Hodson Bay Celtic players now playing with Athlone Town FC.

Tara O’Sullivan, formerly of Bealnamulla FC, now plies her trade with Galway WFC, while Ciara Murphy is also an ex-Bealnamulla FC player.

Athlone Community College recorded big wins against Moyne CC, Scoil Dara Kilcock and Kishogue in their rounds, before getting the better of St. Mary’s, Naas, 8-1 in the quarter-final.

In the semi-final against Holy Family, Newbridge, Ciara Walsh’s free-kick settled the tie at the Athlone Town Stadium.
