The Roscommon senior footballers have recorded their biggest league victory in years following a terrific, and thoroughly deserved, 3-11 to 1-12 success, against 2021 All-Ireland champions, Tyrone, at Dr. Hyde Park.

In what was Davy Burke’s first league game in charge, second-half goals from Ciaráin Murtagh, Diarmuid Murtagh and Ben O’Carroll secured the famous win.

The Rossies, with a strong wind at their backs, were 0-8 to 0-5 ahead at the break after kicking some brilliant points from play, but it didn’t look enough given the strength of the elements.

And when Kieran McGeary flicked a Niall Morgan free to the net after 12 minutes of the second half to move Tyrone two points clear, which was quickly followed by half-time substitute Darren McCurry’s third point of the half, the visitors were in the box seat.

But Roscommon responded magnificently with goals from the Murtagh brothers before Ben O’Carroll sealed the deal in injury time.
