A few days after producing a stellar performance for the Roscommon senior footballers during their famous five-point victory against Tyrone, Niall Daly swapped his “Primrose and Blue” gear for the Bainisteoir’s bib this afternoon.
The Roscommon and Pádraig Pearses defender was manager of the Moate Community School team that dramatically defeated St. Mel’s College, Longford, by 2-10 to 0-15, in the Leinster Schools’ Senior A Football Championship semi-final at The Downs GAA Club.
Daly was joined on the Moate CS management team by Peter Tormey — one of the Roscommon senior football selectors last year under Anthony Cunningham.
St. Mel’s were managed by former Roscommon U-21 and minor football manager Jimmy Gacquin, who also included Dave Rooney from St. Faithleach’s on his management team.
Ironically, Daly played under Gacquin in 2010 when Roscommon bridged an 11-year gap to be crowned Connacht U-21 football champions after defeating Sligo in the final at Markievicz Park.
