Former Dublin star, Diarmuid Connolly, doesn’t expect Roscommon to maintain their position at the top of the Division One table over the remainder of the Allianz Football League.
Roscommon and Mayo meet in a top-of-the-table clash in the Hyde on Sunday, and while Connolly, speaking to BoyleSports ahead of this weekend’s round of matches, was lavish in his praise for Mayo, he feels that the nature of Roscommon’s defeat in Monaghan will see them slipping down the table between now and the end of the league.
“Mayo are the only unbeaten team in the league at the minute and last weekend was a big statement with their middle third, their kick passing and their width.
”Diarmuid O’Connor, Jordan Flynn, Matthew Ruane are six-foot plus, but they can break lines. Aidan O’Shea and the full forwards have been unbelievable, and Ryan O’Donoghue has 1-19 after four games, so they have serious scoring power.
“Roscommon won their first three games, but I thought they were beaten by Monaghan and beaten convincingly for me. So, I think they’re going to come back to the pack a bit,” he said.
