A County Roscommon teenager is hoping to continue his impressive form for the Republic of Ireland schoolboys’ soccer team this month.
Niall Holohan, a student at Carrick-on-Shannon Community School, has already lined out for his country during the 0-0 draw against Scotland in the 2023 SAFIB Hummel Centenary Shield at the end of February.
Niall played in the heart of the Irish defence alongside Eli Rooney, who has been one of the key players for Summerhill College on their way to this year’s All-Ireland Senior Schools’ football final for the prestigious Hogan Cup.
Both players are currently part of the Sligo Rovers U-19 academy.
Son of Gerry and Patricia Holohan, Niall has represented his native Kilmore GAA Club at underage level. His father Gerry is a former Leitrim senior footballer.
Ireland play Wales in Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford, on this Thursday before welcoming England to the Athlone Town stadium on Friday, March 24th. Their finish their campaign with a trip to Belfast to play Northern Ireland on Thursday, March 30th.
The team management contains goalkeeping coach Conor Foley from Athlone Community College.
