A County Roscommon golfer has added another feather to her cap by claiming the Irish Girls’ Amateur Open title at Woodbrook this afternoon.
Olivia Costello finished fourth overall on -10 at the Flogas Irish Women’s Amateur Open Championship, but she was seven shots ahead of her nearest challenger in the Irish Girls’ (U-18) Amateur Open Championship.
The 15-year-old golfer from Roscommon Town shot 72 in the opening round on Friday and 69 on Saturday. Her 72 on Sunday (today) wasn’t enough to reel in winner and defending champion Lorna McClymont from Scotland who finished on -16.
“I played okay, I probably didn’t play as well as what I have the last couple of days. I did scramble around the course. I didn’t really play the best, but I am happy enough with the way I played,” said Costello.
“I am happy, there is definitely a lot to learn from it that I can bring into the rest of the season,” she continued.
Costello’s success comes on the back of winning the Scottish Girls’ Open Championship last month.
