Gardaí are continuing to investigate a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 2.20 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24th  at the Kilmartin Roundabout  on the Dublin Road in Athlone.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for a time in order for a technical examination to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.  Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R446 between Athlone and Moate on Wednesday, May 24th  between 1:45 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. as well as in the area of the Kilmartin Roundabout are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
