Strokestown has received a major funding boost of almost €7.9m funding for a major enhancement of its town centre.

€5,867,496 of Rural Regeneration and Development Funding (RRDF) funding for the town will be supplemented by matched council funding of €2m.

Announced this morning by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, this major RRDF funding will help deliver an enhanced public realm for Strokestown town centre.

The project involves creating pedestrian space, improved connectivity, places for people to congregate and dwell and event space.

Welcoming the funding for this significant rural regeneration project, senator Aisling Dolan described it as an unprecedented level of government and local authority funding.

Senator Dolan acknowledged the input of the Strokestown Town Team, the local community and councillors, together with groups across the town with a vision for the region and who have participated in this project.

“This is a massive boost of €7.9 million in funding and is a major win for Strokestown, an historic and heritage town. "This successful funding announcement today will be a major turning point for Strokestown and shows the plans to develop the town for the future for people of all ages,” she said.
