A County Roscommon man has died in a tragic accident in Indonesia.

Mark Gurren, formerly of Lisliddy and Knockroe, Castlerea died last week in a scuba diving accident in his adopted home of Bali.

A Requiem Mass has taken place in Bali and a Mass of Remembrance for Mark will take place in Castlerea in January.

Son of the late Ted and Anne Gurren, Mark is remembered by those who knew him as a “kind, caring and compassionate friend” and “a great lad to have a chat with and go on adventures with”.

A former area manager with Lidl, Mark studied accounting and marketing at the former Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.

In his early 40s, he had made his home in Bali in recent years where he was well known in scuba diving circles.
