Tributes have been paid to a County Roscommon postman who has retired after 46 years of service.

Adrian Coyle from Carrowcrin, Roscommon has been a postman in the Oran area for the past 38 years and has worked with An Post for a total of 46 years.

Residents who have come to know Adrian over the decades said he would be greatly missed as he was “a true gentleman and a brilliant postman”.

Best wishes and good health in retirement have been extended to him.

In a special tribute on Thursday evening, before he retired on Friday last, Adrian, who delivered post to Runnamoat NS, Ballinaheglish for 38 years, was the guest of honour at a special celebration.

Staff and pupils alike listened with great interest to the story of his career, starting out as a messenger boy in his teens to the present day. He showed the pupils some of his different An Post hats, his postman’s rule book and the list of townlands in his run that is passed down from post person to post person.
